Madam
It is with most painful feelings that I now write to you in regard to your husband who was wounded in the fight at this place in the left arm a compound fracture boath bones broken then he was attacked withe erysipelas which proved fatal he was a brave soldier beloved by his comrads and respected by his comanders he gave his life for the glorious cause of liberty he was a martyr for his country enshrined in our hearts his comrads we feel for his sorrowing friends / for his loss to them and they have our heartfelt sympathies for their berevement but we trust that he has gone to a better home where all is joy and peace no suffering or pain I trust that you will receive the consolations of Gods promises to his people and to the sorrowing hearts you have the sympathies of all of his comrads in this your sore affliction he left an pocket book 40cts and a pair of spectacles which we will send to you if you wish I remain
Very Respectfully
