Albert H. Pierson to Julia A. Pierson, 25 January 1862
Fulton Sat Jan 25th '62

Dear Sister
I received your kind and much welcomed letter about three hours ago, and as it is saturday night, and my lessons & peace are learned for next week, I will answer it immediately. I was glad to hear from you, it being the first letter that I have received from you since I have been here I was sorry to learn that you were sick. I suppose you have to stay out of school. Well here I am in old Fulton at the same old trade study. I am well and have been quite so ever since my stay here. I am enjoying my-self very well here this winter. We have a very full school here this winter, and also a very good one. I wish you had come along with me. I think you could not of helped liking it.

We have good sleighing here, the snow is / about 15 inches deep. It make me feel agravated to see sleighload after sleighload of young folks passing here nearly every day, and I poor fellow cannot enjoy it. I have not had a sleighride this winter. I am rather inclined to think it would be different if I were at home. Ill bet patchen would have to be around to time as often as singing-school night at least. It makes me feel bad to hear of the sleighrides that the young folks are taking around home when I cannot enjoy them. I heard from home last Saturday. I was quite surprised to learn that they have the measels so bad in our neighborhood and even at home. If Lottie has them it will be quite likely that they all will have them. I suppose of course you know that Levi is home sick with the Typhoid Fever. I accompanied him on his return home as far as Syracuse. I came very near going home with him & comming back on monday But I thought it would'nt pay. our school will be out in 3½ weeks from to day and then I will be on the road home / if not before. I wish it was up now. I don't know as I am homesick any but it was a little lonesome when Levi left. I have another chum now. he came to day. I like him very well. I tell you those hickory-nuts chesnuts pop corn & honey which I brought along came in play very well but I do not have many apples.

I received a letter from Edwin Jan 2nd he was well then and in fine spirits although I suppose you have heard from him since then. I was surprised when I learned that Charley was going to build a house. he will be close neighbors to us then. I have received several letters Henry. he is enjoying himself firstrate. You wrote that Cousin Lottie sent her love to me. I thank her very kindly and I also send my love to her in return, hoping to hear from her and also from the some of the rest of our Cousins at Geneva. About that ride out to Bethel I heard a little about it. I would like to of been along. Did you attend the party that was at Mr Vails a short time ago / I would like to of been their. Tell Uncle Will I am going to answer his letter before long. I have to study pretty hard to keep up with my classes for they are going ahead faster than usual this Term. They have a good many cases here of Typhoid Fever here. one of the students that rooms here has got the Putrid sore throat. he is getting better here now. You did'nt tell me how you liked your school this winter neither have I heard anything about it. Give my respects to enquiring friends and write soon To your brother            A. H. Peirson
