McDougal Hospital, /'63
Fort Schuyler, Oct 30th

Sister Julia
I recd your your welcome letter yesterday with much pleasure. I assure you I have some more news to tell you this time that isnt aggreeable to me in the least, I dont know how you will like it. It is this. all the N.Y. troops here that are able to go home are to have ten days furloughs / given them tomorrow in order to be home in time to vote vote, and I, I am sorry to say am one that is not able to go, but never mind I have not given up all hopes of getting a furlough yet. I am going to keep as still as possible with my wound leg and about the middle of December I am going to do my best and try to get one. my leg wound is some better it is gaining very slowly. I recd those two boxes of Climax Salve that Mother sent. I dont think I will use it until my wound begins to heal pretty well. Every one here thought a week ago that this hospital was going to be broken up it was even in the papers, but now it is evedent that it is not to be broken up / 180 left here & went to Davids Island yesterday, that is all they are going to send away so report says. tomorrow all the New England men go home from here to their own states. that thin that will thin the hospital out pretty well, but they there is 3000 sick and wounded on the way here from Washington. the health of wounded here is excellent. the weather is getting colder, which is much better for the wounds. You asked me if there was anything that I wanted, clothing, eatibles, or anyting else. I cannot think of anythink of anything now that I want
