Henry Richardson was born around 1829 in Boston, Massachusetts. He married a woman named Fanny around 1850, and they had at least two children: James born around 1851; and Wilbur, born around 1853. The family moved to Cuyahoga County, Ohio, sometime in the 1850s. By 1860, Richardson was working as a shoemaker, and he owned $50 of personal property. He enlisted in the Union army on June 1, 1861, and mustered in as a 2nd lieutenant in Company B of the 23rd Ohio Infantry the following day. He was promoted to 1st lieutenant on July 23, 1861. On February 1, 1862, he was promoted to captain and transferred to Company E of the 54th Ohio Infantry. The regiment took part in the Battles of Corinth and Shiloh. Richardson resigned on December 11, 1862, and returned to Cuyahoga County. By 1870, he was working as a boot and shoe agent, and he owned $500 of personal property. By 1880, he and Fanny were living in their son James’s household in Cuyahoga County. He died of typhoid fever there on September 30, 1884.
