Louisa A. Walker to Enos Reed, 28 June 1863
Black Oak Pt. Iowa June 28th 1863
My Dear Husband.
I had just got my pen ink and paper this morning and sat down to write when Jim and Mead come and about noon Jim Harden Mary and the children and Ma come. They are all gone now and I will devote the remainder of the day to you. We had a fine rain last night, the first that we have had to wet the ground since you was here. I do not think that Olly is much better. she cough's very hard yet. you said that I must always tell you something about your little spud you need not fear that I will ever forget to write something / about the nice itty bit sing
Pap got a letter from Charley last thursday. They are twelve miles below Vicksburg and are all in good health. I do not know how to address you now but I think that I will get a letter from you before I mail this. Jim Molesworth has traded for a four year old Mare, and he rides to school now. Harv sold Tom for $20 and bought Fleck's three calves. he paid $13 for them. Next saturday is the 4th of July I expect that I will spend it with somebody that stays at home. Pap's folks and Jim Mead and Harv and Pa's folks are going to Chariton I guess that they are going to have a great celebration there Harv has not written to Dave yet. I expect that Dave will soon begin / to think that it was no use to send him a pen I wish that I could study up something more to write. I have not heard any news since I wrote last and I have nothing more to write now but prehaps I will write some more before I send this to the P.O. Monday 29th I have a chance to send this to the office this morning and if I wait until I get a letter from you I will have to go and take it myself so I guess that I will direct to the Co. and Reg. and let it go. Olly is some better this morning. Harv is waiting on me and I will come to a close
Your loving wife
