Dear wife i take my pen in hand to in forme you that i am well and i truley hope when those fiew lins come to hand tha will finde you and the children well and doing well i want you to do the best you can i will come home as soon as i can wee will draw our pay in afiew days and then i will come home if i can get afurelow and if i cannot get one i will sende you money by som of the nabors tell John A Jowns he must com down to see us hear i will in forme you that wee hav had sum bad luck we hav had eight men vary bad / poisand one is ded and another is thought to be dying and tha think the most of them will die tha say that sum of them that was poisand tha say tha got it in whiskey as soon as wee can find out hoo tha got the whiske the will soldiers will kill him and if tha poisand eny more the rebels will all be drove from her or killd wee will hav reveng for that so i hope the time will soon com when wee will soon get kill the nastey rebels i think it will be don don to nite fr from what i can finde out write i will rite as soon as you get i can finde oute all aboute it / parte of the men is in Compeney "K" and parte in Compeney "I" one of our boys swore that he wold kill 2 rebel this nite if he did not so help him god i will send you and the children som hankers for you i want you to rite to mee as soon as you can send them pants as soon as you can get them don sende them by the firste one that pases if you hav not got that seventey five sence from the old mother king that i pade to her for John king he told mee that he took the yoke for his pay and you get that i want you to rite all aboute how you are agetting along and all aboute it i wante /
