Aprile the 20th 1864
Dear Rittey Ann I take my pen in hand to ansor your letter of the 7 of Aprile which I recived the 10 a bout son up and at the same time wee recived marching orders but we did not no whear we was a going and I did not rite untill now we are at McMinnville a gane we landed hear yestearday a bout one Oclock and I am on Pickuet gard to day and I dont no when the male will go out the 19 Meshegan Redgment will leav hear to morrow for Nashville and I think I will send it off then I was glad to hear from you and the children glad to hear that you was all well and a doing as well as you was we had a big frost last nite to day the wind blows could and is clere the wether is vary could hear for the time of the year I rote a letter and sent it by John Cooper to you and put that goald pen in the letter and I sent my over coat by Jack willkerson he said he wold leave the coat at Mike Coons for you and I want you to rite and let me no whether you got them things or not and I sent a speer fasend with red yarne on the left side of the brest of the over coat it is a brass one I did not hav it fixt keepe and be serten to get them for I dont think the boys will ever come to the Redgment a gane let me no how you are getting a long / I rote three letters before I sent that by John Cooper and now I dont no how long it will be till I will get one from you rite as often as you can and let me now how you are all a getting a long Oh if I was with you I wolde give you one hug I am shure the time seems long to me fore months and six days more for us and our time will be out I think we will not move eney more till we go to St louis Mo Our Officers says this is the last move untill we go North times is feasobel hear no news news from the front of eney note yet but our boys will make a brake on the rebels before long and then the hole contest of this Ware depends on the presant fite dependen on the Potomac and the armey in alebame or the Chatonuga army Our men has one hunderd milds of the rale rode the other side of Chatonuga
well tell the children that I send my love to them and want them to remember mee you no that I hav rote som nonsenc but you nead not think hard of me it was all in funn and I remane your devoted husband till deth if I was with you I cold see som pleasure with you in stide of being with you and the children I am hear on the barren fork of the Comberlon Rivver with my pen in hand in a shantey I am well at presant the is all well
