My Dear Wife I am a gane permitted to drop you a fiew lins to let you no that I am tolerbel at this time and I truley hope when those scrabling lins comes to hand tha will find you all well and doing well
 
Rittey Ann our Officers says we will starte from hear to morrow at 12 Oclock the boys is a cooking now for us the boys is all well at this time and in fine sperits tha say wee are a going to MackMensville it is three days travell for us to walk and wee will see a harde time before wee get back to Mo but I trust to the grate God that gives Oh I think he / bring All things rite
 
I hope to see you all and injoy your presants Oh when I think if the pleas that wee injoyed when I was with you and now wee are deprived of each others presants but I still live in hops that I will live to see you all and live in peece at home. Oh then if wee are blest with that grate privolige what a hapey time wee will then see Oh may wee liv to see the grate Rebellion put down and then us poore soldiers can go home to our beloved wivs and littel children and then we can lay down our muskets and liv in peece Oh then wee can be with each other and see soom hapey days yet I hope I spilt som ink on this paper and / I dont no whether you can read this letter or not but you must excuse mee for this bad scrabling
 
if I never see you eney more in this world I want us to live so when wee com to die that wee can say Com wellcom deth wee will gladly go with you then wee will be with each other for ever Oh then let us be faithful and do our dewtey I want you to remember mee and pray for mee
 
So I must close for this time rite soon as you get this letter fare well
