Dear Wife I take my pen in hand to drop you a fiew lins to let you no that I am well to nite and I truley hope when those scrabling lins comes to hand tha will find you and the children well and doing well
 
well Rittey Ann we are all well so fare as I no thare fete is a getting better and we moved to day out to the north side of the town tha say wee will stay hear this wintter wee may stay and then wee may be moved to Chattenuga wee are now 65 milds from thare / wee are on the left wing of the armey now. the boys when tha are out on picket tha see the Rebels a slipping a round thru the brush and tha hav shot som of the other troops when tha was on picket but I dont think wee are in mutch danger hear un less a larg band of garillers comes thrue wee hav no canon hear som says the is a battery a coming hear the is a nother Regt hear but tha are sma Regt tha hav bin in a grate maney fits tha are a Meshigan
 
the trane leavs hear to morow morning I rote a day before yestearday and I will send this with it and I want you to rite soon as you can I must soon close /
 
well you must do the best you can dont get out of hart for I think that I will get home to see you and liv with you and the children tell the children that tha must be goode to you and tell them that I hav not for got them and wold be glad to see them and wold like to see you too but wee are maney milds a part I think of you every day and nite rite soon
