Camp near Murfreesboro Tenn
 
My Dear Wife I gladly take my pen in hand to ansor your kind letter bareing date of the 23 of last month which I red with pleasure and delite I was glad to hear from you all one time more tho I was sorry to hear that your eys was sore tho I hope you will soon get well I was not so well as I am for comon my eys is sore at this time tho I think tha will get well thare selvs I wash them in cold watter and tha are som better than tha was yesterday so I am in hops that when those lins comes to hand tha will find you all well and doing well I hav nothing strang to rite at this time the boys is all well at this time as fare as I now we hav nice warme wether / and som of our boys has bin a fishing and has caught som this eavning I think we are in a nice helthy place if we can only get to stay hear we are in a bregade tha say and in the 11 armey Corps that is the resurv corps part is out at Chatenooga and part out at nashville and part hear at Murfreesboro som says we will stay hear our time out tho we dont no only what tha tell us I dont see eney thing to cause us to be moved at this time Joseph Wollhether is in nice littel shantey to our selvs it is just big a nuff for too men we hav a nice littel fireplace in it if we stay hear we can do well the boys is all well pleased at our quarters we hav the best of eney of our reg we hav a new Capt his name is James A. brooer I think he is a fine man / but we hav som men that I dont think mutch of Leutenant Wyatt is a fine man and I think he aut to be our Capt tho I hav no reason to complane brooer treets us all well and I exspect to treet him as I aut too we hav six months more to searv and if I live then I will be free then I will not hav to sholder a old muskeet and napsack and go in line I am not tierd of our Goverment I think that other men that has stade at home aut to stand som of the hard ships of a soldier life then if tha cant end the ware if I live and hav my helth I will enlist a gane well Rittey Ann I hav the nisest goald pen and pen holder for you you ever seen in your life John W. Littler Sam hedrix John Cooper and severel others has goan in the vetren servis and will come home on fur lows and I will send the pen by one of them /
 
Well as it is raining tonight and it is about bed time I will soon close
 
Well I beleave i hav told you all the newse so if you wanto know any more you will hafto guess for yourself
 
So now i will turn the key and wind up my letter
