My Dear Wife I take my pen in hand to ansor your kind letter which came to hand to day and I red it with pleasure I was truley glad to hear from you and the children and glad to hear that you was all as well as you was you seam to think strang of a letter that I sent you backed in my name I did not rite the letter the way he cam to rite the letter Jim picked up the letter and red it and then told it to Wolhether and som more that was in the shantey and I had bin doing som work and did not feel like riting and Wolhether was thare and I told him to rite me a letter and then he rote that letter and backed the letter to me before I new it I had put a stamp on it and I just let it go so and I thought you wold take it out of / the offic tho I supose you did not the reason I new not why If eney letters coms to the offic in my name al ways take them out if you respect me and if not let them lay in the offic I may direct letters that way yet I cant tell what I will do yet not nowing what is to come to pass and as to the joke if thare is eney about it I hav never heard it that is the reason that I hav rot a bout what you said and if you cant take the letters out that comes to me I think you dont care mutch a bout me so this is a nuff on that subject
 
you said that you was vary near out of coarn and had no money to by with I dont no what to do we hav not got our pay yet we hav 4 months due us but we dont think we will get pad off for too months yet then it will be six months due us / so I think you had better borow a bout 10 Dollars if that will be a nuff if not get more if you can and as soon as I get pay I will send you som money so dont mind the intrust on the money I just hav one dollar for to by stamps with that is all I hav the boys ows me som but tha hav not eney by them you must hav bred at som prise go to som man and borrow som money and get corn well you seam to think strang that I dont rite oftener then I do I rite and you said you thought I promist to rite every 8 or 10 days the most of my time I rite one letter a weeke and I rite one every time I get one and too or three between the letters I get from you I hav three on the road sinc I got the last letter before this eavning so if you dont get / them I cant help it it is not my falt and I now it so if you dont want to see my letters I rite to you and all you hav to just let me no and I will not bother you with them soon after I find that out you said you had som thing on your mind but you wold not rite a bout it so do as you pleas I cant tell whither I will ever liv to see your face on this earth I want you to remember that we all hav to die sooner or later tho many milds a part we be when this you see remember me one that has al ways don for the best or at eney rate sente all the money home that I cold spare
