My Dear Wife i am a gane permited to drop you a fiew lins in ansor to your kind letter that come to hand too day which i red with pleasure was glad to hear from you and glad to hear that you and the children was well and doing well your letter come to hand an our or too a go and i hav to take this to the station in an half hour from now i rote you a letter a fiew days a go and i had made a trade with Alaxander king i baut that fortey achors of land that corners thare by our well i had to pay one hunderd and twenty five dollars i rote too you / all a bout the trade
 
the boys is all well as fare as i now at this time we heard a hevey cannonading south west of hear this morning but we dont now what it ment it lasted for a bout one hour and a half and then seast i dond think it was more then 20 or 30 milds oaf som thinks that the melishey had a fite with the rebels and Copperheds i must now close by saing write soon and oaften                       John W.
