Camp Gambel June the 27th 1863
                                                                                                            My Dear Wife it is One more time that I am permitted to drop you a fiew lins in ansor to your letter which I recived this morning which I red with grate pleasure it is a grate satisfaction to me to se letters from you but yet it is not like if I was with you and the children Oh I now I never wanted to se you and the children you said you and the children was a going to the grate dinner on the fourth of July O wold like vary well to be thare with you and the children to help you eat your fine cakes and pies wee dont hear eney thing a bout eney thing to do hear on the forth we had a little row in site of our Camp the was three reglars soldiers in a seloon and / Capt More had bin down in the Citey and returnd and went in the seloon and one of them run up to him and took hoalt of him and curst him and wanted to no if he was the Commander hear and more shuved him back and then tha all run at him and one of them drew his revolver and tha say he shot twist at More but did not hit him tha pounded him up tolerbel bad and Leutenant Renels run in and tha beat him up too and by that time our boys got thare and arested them and tha are sent to the Martel Streat prison and I think when tha get out tha will be glad for tha are put with the Rebls and treated the same way Som of our Regiment is in thare now and I am sorry to se them thare / we are not a loud to speak to them if we do and the Officers see us tha wold arest us and put us in with them I mist going on gard to day for the second time sinc we come hear the is 27 privets one Serg. fore Corprels on dutey to day and tha will come back to morrow and next day we will hav to go back I dont hav nothing mutch to rite the boys is generely well at this time we are stationed in a high nice blue grass paster with som shade trees a round us we hav to go 2 too 2 and a half milds down in the Citey to gard those Prisons we hav vary hot wether hear now I cant rite to do mutch good to nite I hav the trimbels and a bad lite so I bring my letter to a close for to nite and finish in the morning /
 
we hav som apearnc of wrane this morning and it is som coolear this morning and I am proud to say that my helth is good at this time and my desier is when those fiew lins comes to hand tha will you all well and doing well Q.C.A.king has returnd and he said he wold rite to his pap that he was never made a contract with James long for to pay the exspences of him a making a dead James was to pay for that his self and if he wants to act the man he will pay that rite and let me now what you had to pay for the dead
 
So I must close by saying I want to be rememberd by you all so fare well rite soon
