July the 24th 1864
Dear Rittey Ann I am permitted to pen you a fiew lins in ansor to yours of the 18 of this month I was glad to hear from you I hav got too letters from you since I came hear I hav rote three and this makes 4 I am hear yet I am a going to try to get a furlow and come home if I can twentey days or thirtey tho I may be mestaken I may not get one at tall if I dont get one in ten or fifteen days I will not come till my time is out I dont think my eys will be well a nuff for me to go back to my Regt and i dont no what I will do I hav no Descriptiv role hear if I had tha say I cold get a discharge furlow and then I cold come home but that dont suit me I want to stay till I get my / discharge rite and then I will hav it and tha cant keep me out of my money tho I may get able to go back to the regt and if I dont get to come home 15 or twentey days I may go back to the regt if my eys keeps mending and gets well soon a nuff tho I cant tell what tha will do with me it is only guess work and I dont no how long I will stay hear som times my eys is better one day and the next worse so I dont no when I will be well I cant see half as good as I cold before tha watter and smart and each the Docter burns them with blue stone every too or three days and som times every day he says I hav the chronic sore eys and a catare in my hed I hav had the worst stuff to come out of my nose and a misery in my hed but that has pretey near left me now and I think I will get well /
well you sent me the nombers of that land but I cant tell eney thing a bout them when you rite hav boath sections lade off and the nombers of the sects and rang and the nombers of our land and the nombers on that mans land hav sombodey to do it that nose all how the land lays and all a bout it
