To His Excellency
The President
Sir,
In response to your reference of the following resolution of the House of Representatives adopted on the 30th ultimo, to wit;
"Resolved: That the resolution of this House calling for the ages
of the Clerks employed in the various Government Offices, was
not intended to apply to the lady clerks,"
I have the honor to say, that in my communication to you on the 29th of October ultimo, in answer to the resolution of the House of Representatives of the 23d of October, acting on what seemed to me the evident spirit and intention of said resolution I omitted to institute enquiries as to the ages of the female clerks in this Department.
With great respect,
Your Obt Servt
John H. Reagan
