My Dear wife I one time more take my pen in hand to in hand to in forme you that I am well and I truley hope when those fiew lins com to hand tha will find you and the children all well and doing well
 
Rittey Ann I recived a letter from you last friday which I was glad to read and hear from you and the children which I dearley  and Rittey Ann I supose that you hav heard that our Reg ment or the most of them / has the clap or pock som of the bouys has the clap and som the pock but as to my part I hav not the clap or pock I never hav latched a woman in that maner since I com in the servis of the united Stats servis and I want you to write all about hoo wrote such things as that I hav had the clap I wrote to you that I was agoing to com home in a fiew days but I can not com untill lutenant munn comes back to the regment he has goan home he got leav of absons for seven days and he started yestearday and / he sayd as soon as he com back that he will let me com home to stay a fiew days and if I dont get leav of absons or afer low I will stay untill I get my next pay and if tha dont giv leav I think I will com eny how and resk the consequenc I must com home to see you all if I liv and keep my helth
 
Rittey Ann I ame to do what is write and what the bibel techis us and ow my dear wife I want us to liv so that when we com to die that we / can say com welcom deth I will gladly go with you I must now close

we are out on couts nearley every day and we hav killed som rebels and we hav seen them run and we fired at som of them and we shot a hole thru one of thare hats and we was back thare and tha sayd that we shot ahole thru his bodey and he throde his head up when the muskets fired and bumped up his self
