Macon City November the 12th 1862
 
My Dear wife I take my pen in hand to ansor your letter that Bettey Lomax broat to me I was glad to hear from you and the children and hear that you was getting along as well as you was I am well to day and I truly hope when those fiew lins comes to hand tha will find you and the children well you said you was disepointed you said that I did not write for you to com down to se mee I will let you no the reson our officers keep telling us that we was agoing to the Barracks in a fiew days and I thout that it wold be throwing your money away to come down hear and us be goan we did not now what day or hour we wold be oarderd to move and now i think we will move before meney days the Cornel has sent one to hed quarters for trans potation to go to Chillecothe so Roof king told me yesterday eavning so if we / go thare I want you to come down to se me as soon as you get a letter from me I will rite as soon as I get thare for you to come to se me Our boys is generely well at this time Norman king is a bout well John and Elick is well Mr harper is in the housepittel yet he is som better than he has bin I must close at this time tell the children that I want them to be good and learne thare books and tell them I want to see them mitey bad and I think I will come home to see them before long I must now close for this time fare well to all
