Aug the 8th 1864
Dear Rittey Ann I take my pen in hand to ansor your letter which came to hand this morning I was glad to hear from you glad to hear that you was all well and I hope when those lins comes to hand tha will find you all well and doing well I recived the letter from Amey in your letter I hav rote sevrel letters to her and recived no ansors from them I concluded to not rite aney more to her soon I rote one letter to pap and I told her to direct her letters to Middlebury that I thought I wold be at home before long I hav said that I thought I wold get home before long the docter says that he will let me come but I cant tell how soon if I dont get to / come by the time I told you I wold not come a tall till my time is out and is the 26 of this month I rote to you the other day if my descriptiv role was hear I cold get my discharge but it is not hear and I dont no whether it will be hear by the 26 of this month I will come if I can and if I cant it will not be my falt
So I will do the best I can and be contented with my fate like I hav allways don since I hav bin out and only trust to providence like I hav all wase tride to do Men was borne to see truble and full of deseat and hav now to stand thare fate let it be good or bad we all hav to reap our reward this morning with a nice brite sun shine finds me in good helth only my eys / tha are still on the mend the Docter says in a week he thinks tha will be prettey near well he tutched them yesterday morning and this morning I think are doing well as tha can I dont no but I think I will get a ferlow this week but if I dont I can stay hear you must keep in good hart it will not be long till I can come home a free man tell the children I send my best lov and respects to them and want to be rememberd by them and by you you must recive a good shear of love your self for I new if I was with you I wold give you a hug shure well I will hav to close soon so fare well to all
