Dear Rittey Ann I am a gane permitted to pen you a fiew lins to let you no how I am a getting a long I am well only my eys I think my eys will soon be well tha are a greate deal better I can see better to day than I hav for a long time
 
I rote a letter the other day to you conserning a bout coming home if my ferlow was hear I wold not try to get to come home till you I cold get my discharge if I new I cold get it by the 26 of this month I wold not try for a furlow but it is not hear I hav rote for it but I cant tell how soon long it will be till it will come hear so I think I will try for a ferlow soon thare is 5 men out on ferlows and tha will be back soon and the docter Docter said as soon as tha get back he / giv me a ferlow if I come before my time is out I will be at home by the 15 or 20 of this month you said if I did not com home before long you wold come down to see me I wold like to see you all the best kind if you was to come down hear I cold not be with you the Sergt has oarders to not let no man out of the hospital to stay with his wife one nite yestearday eavning a mans wife came to see him and the ward Docter wold not let him go to stay with her I am nearley well and it wold cost you a bout 20 dollars to come the tripe and it will cost one dollar and a half per nite hear and I cold not lie with you if you was to come and I think you had better not come on those serscomstances this is my opinion /
 
hav you heard eney more of the boys since you rote to me tha hav had a nother harde battle at Atlantia Georga but we dont no how many of our men was killed one repoart said that our men got repulsed but it was a rebel repoart and a nother said we repulsed the Rebls and the loss was hevey on both sides and I think that is true we hav lost one grate General McFerson and Hooker is removed to the Armey of the Potomac to cooperate with Grant we think our armey is a doing well what dos the men think of the draft by this time I wold be glade to be at home with you and the children I cold tell you a grate many things if I was thare I think if I hav good luck I will be at home after a while I cant tell how soon /
 
well Rittey Ann I hav seen a grate many things and had a grate many ups and downs since I saw you tell the children I want to see them the worst kind tell them to hav a big wattermillion for me to eat and tell Manervey and Emley to hav me som tomatoes and cewcombers pickueld for me tell nine and Jacob to hav me a big fat Shang high chicken to when I come home
