Dear wife I am blest with the privolig of droping you a fiew lins this eavning to let you no that I hav reach Rolla safe we had good luck I hav spent seven dollars and thirtey sents from Chillecothe to Rolla the boys is all well tha are all in Camp now tha hav not had eney fite hear only the pickets and that sitzon that was fired on that you had heard be fore I got hear the next day after we left you you was goan in to Reeds we a loud but we did not hav time to go to se you well you must content / the best you can and take care of your self the best you can and be serten to get corn a nuff to do you go and se gorg baker and get old corne if you can tell him that he will hav to wate with us untill we get pade off and we dont look for pay untill after the last of next month then we will hav fore month pay due us
 
well we heared you now that our Colonel oardeley was kild that is not sow it was one of the old Jenerels oardeleys the old Jenerel and him run on the gard that was at the stabel the garde haulted him and / thre times and he did not stop and the Jenerel then run and the gard shot the oardeley and he died that nite Oh how I wish that it had bin the old Jenerel or old grass gut Morten in stid of the soldier it was one of Companey I that kild him I am a bout like I was when I left home the Docter put the bandeg on my sholder this morning he said it was a doing well but he thought that I had better keep the bandeg on for a while I am so trimbely that I cant hardley rite tha say our Colonel says we will fix for winter quarters hear well I hav rote all of / notis this time and cant rite vary well no how I will close by saying I hope those lins will reach you in due time and find you all well rite soon and let me now how you are a getting a long So fare well for a while I will rite a gane a bout the last of the week tell the children that I send my lov to them and want them to remember thare pah for I lov them and you to well I will close for this time this is not home by no means
