Camp Gambel July the 13th 1863
My Dear Wife a fiew lins more I rote to you that I wold send this letter by norman king I took a nother notion I will send this by male I rite this by Candel lite the news came to us late this eavning we are oarderd to Roley to starte in the morning at 8 oClock and I am willing to go I am tierd of Sant louis for it is one of the nastes holes we ever was at the boys will not starte home untill after we are setteld and then tha will get to come tha talk like we was agoing to hold the poste and if we do we will be apt to stay arite smarte while thare thare tha say we will hav good spring watter and tha say it is a helthey place I am tierd of this place tho we cold get to a worse place then this we have some a pearenc of wrane it is a thundering and litning and is a sprinkling wrane at this time and we will hav lots from the apearanc we hav fine news the union for ever and for ever /
well Rittey Ann I think the ware is the most over the harde fiting in the west is over tho I think we will hav Gerilee ware ware for a year or too I think that Jenerel Meads will whip lee and take the most of his men we hav not heard from poart hudson for 5 or 6 days and I think that when we hear from thare we will hear of our men having this place in our posesion we hav glorious news every day and I wold not be suprised if Meeds has good luck that the ware wold ende by the first of Jenuary and I think the hard fiting will be over by that time and I hope and pray that I may liv to see the time that I can come home to stay with you and the children tell them that I send my lov to them and Oh if I cold get to see you I now that I wold giv you one hug or I wold make the trile eney how well I will hav to close by asking you to remember me in your prairs to god so I remane your loving husbon until deth fare well
