Macon Citey November the 4 1862
 
            My Dear wife I one more time take my pen in hand to in forme you that I am well to nite and I truley hope when those fiew lins comes to hand tha will find you all well and doing well I recived your welcom letter of the date October the 23 which I was glad to read and to hear from you and the children and to hear that you was all well I hav nothing strang to write helth is good in our Regment generely norman king has bin sick and at the house pittel I saw him this morning and he is getting better he was in Camp he thinks he was a heepe better John Cook has bin sick but he is agoing about and he says he will soon be well
 
I think we will move to the barracks in St louis and then wee will go from thare down South som thinks we will goin tennesee and som thinks we will go down to vicks burgh and if we go I am satis fied that we will never all get / home eney more but I hope and pray that if I never see you eney more I want us to try to live so that when wee come to die that we can say all is well Come wellcom deth I will gladly go with you and if I never see you eney I want you to pray for me and pray that I may make my way to heven and immortel gloury and pray for all of our poore soldiers that tha may be abel to stand the battels and that tha may be spard from that grim monster of deth and finely go home to thare respectful fameleys and that as tha gro in age that tha may grow in grace and in the noleg of the truth so that tha may be god fearing men and finely make thare way home to heven and imortel glory O Rittey no tong can express my feelings at this time I pray for you and them sweete littel children that if I never get home that you may rase the children to no what is rite tetch them to read the bibel and keep them out of bad compney tetch them to pray and to shun every apearns of eavel /
 
            Rittey Ann this is my desier and what I pray for I want you to not get out of hart but pray for us all I dont no whether I will get to come home before we leav hear or not our Cornel told us that he wold let som of us go home as soon as he cold I told him that I wanted to come to fix som way for you to get wood this wintter and he said he wold let me no whether he cold or not he said he had been oarderd to not giv eney fer lows but he said he wold let me come home if he cold so I think that I will get to come after we are paid off our mustter rools is made out and tha say we will get our pay the last of this weeke or the first of next weeke but still I will not promis to come for serten but if I can com I shurley will come home to see you all so I must now come to a close for this time So fare well to all write soon fare well

nancey Jane a fiew lins to you you must be a good girle and take care of your self and dont mary untill the ware is over and then you will hav a chance to get som good man that is not a Rebel and lots of the boys that is with us is carde players and tha are at that a good part of thare time and som plays that you dont think plays I must close for this time fare well                                                                      J.
