Ransom Campbell to Friend, 11 September 1862
Chester Hospital Pa
Sept 11th 1862

                        Estemed Friend
I now seat my-self to drop a few lines in reply to your kind and welcom letter which which I recieved a few days since and would have answered sooner but I have had so much writing to do and I cannot sit long at a time to write but pardon me this time and I will do better next time

since I last wrote to you I have had a tast of the realitys of a soldiers life and also a visit to Richamond which I did not enjoy half so well as I could the same length of time at home but as that cannot be at the present time I must content my self where / I am unless I take a discharge for I cannot get a furlough and I have no idea of being discharged until the war is over and I think that day is sumwhat distnt if our Generals does not do better than they have of late but we can at least hope that the tables will soon be turned on the rebbles and our government yet be restored to it former power but if this is not to be I do not wish to see the day that the south shall be recognized as a government for our only hopes of a lasting peace must be in conquoring the enemys of our country

the Hospital that I am in is a very good one and we have every comfort that is nessary for / our spedy recovery my health is very good at present but my wounds does not so fast as they might two of my ribs was broken and I fear that I must have one of them taken out but I do not think amount to much and I think another month will see me in my company again

I must bring my letter to a close for the present for I am getting tired sitting

give my love to all enquireing friends

                        Nothing more
but remaining yours truely
