Aug the 12th 1863
 
My Dear Wife it is one time more that I take my pen in hand to in forme you that I am well this eavning which I am am glad to say that I am well and I truley hope when those lins comes to hand tha will find you and the Children well and doing well well I hav no strang news to rite to you this time the boys is all well as fare as I now our boys is out in the Countrey about six milds a chopping timber to make a Comissary house for the north west armey it will take them a rite smarte while to cut them 
 
well I for got, Jack Wilkenson as he went to go home he stopt at Calvey wher we was last winter and he got oaf the Cars and he went out to the stoer house and he met with a man that he had a dificullty and he shot the man thru the bowels the man was not dead the last we heard from him but tha say he was bound to die I dont now the petculars So he is braut back hear and put in the garde house and John king will start home in the morning in the plase of wilkenson So I will get to come on the / next squad So I hope to see you and the littel Children well this is all that I will rite at this time So no more
