My Dear Wife I take my pen in hand to drop you a fiew lins this morning to let you no that I am tolerble well only my eys tha are not as wel as tha hav bin I cant hardly see a line to day I think I took cold nite before last I truley hope when those lins comes to hand tha will find you all well and doing well I hav looked for a letter all week but it was in vane I got non but I reckon the reason is that I rote I thought I wold come home in a fiew days well furloes has plade out and promotions is on serten and I will not get to come home till my time is out I have one month and 4 days and then my time will be out and then I can come home 
 
Rittey Ann I rote to you to send me some money some 5 or 10 dollars if you hav not sent it it is all rite and if you hav it is all rite tho if you hav not sent the money dont send it for I may be sent back to our redgiment I dont no what tha will do with me yet My Descriptiv role has not come yet tha may send me to Scofield barracks St louis when I go from hear I will go thare and I may be sent to the redg I think I will stay hear till the last of next weeke if I do I am a going to get a pass and go up to the Mosell bridg where we use to be stationed I think I can get 4 or 5 days pass to tell you the truth I dont think tha will send me back to the redgiment but I may be mestaken my eys is not well a nuff for me to eney / good I think if I hav to go out in the hot son it will ruin my eys and I am a going to stay hear all the time till tha get sound and well if tha do in a month
 
I want you to rite as soon as you can and let me no how you are all a getting a long let me no whether you hav heard eney thing from the 23 boys pleas let me no what and wheare tha was and all you no I hav rote but I cant hear from them tell the Children that I send my love to them and if I was with you I wold be shure to hug you I hope and trust that it will not be long till wee will be to gether and engoy our selvs to gether so I must close soon So fare well       John W Sanders

if you send me money put it in side of a letter then dobble the letter so it will not be seen be shure to fix it up rite you no how to direct your letters I will come home as soon as I can fare well
