Camp prentiss, Rolla, Mo

 

Dear Sister

                        I seat my self this good Saba morning for the purpose of writing you a few lines in answer your kind letter which I have neglected on act acount of us being on the move we left St louis on the 14^th and landed on the morning of the 15^th we have anice place here to camp and I think a helthy place we had a letter from Jackson the other day he was well and doing well I have nothing of im portance to write the ware is progressing well at this time I think if tha keep on in ashort time the rebels will have to give up as I dont think tha tha can hold out long in the way tha are going on we have whiped them at every point for some time we have the mississippi is open from the head to the mouth and the paper last night stated that that the seege was progressing well the last acount at charston well rity an you wanted to now how many had maried since we went to St louis I dont think that there has ben any maried and I think that any body that writes any such things up thare had better tend to there one business or any thing elce that dont concern them for I think that it would be a thing that I would not like to be guilty of to make disterbance be tween man and wife and I think that any body that would do it would do any thing and that is anough on that subject turn over 

 

well I will close for this time these lines leave me well and I hope tha may safely and in good time reach you and find you all well James and has our pictures taken for you or eave one and we will have them taken a gane and send them by the first one that pases So nomore I still remain
