Dear sister your
kind and ever welcom letter of the 16th come to hand and was received with pleasure and read with great care and interest I was truly glad to hear from you and to hear that you was well I have nothing strang to comunicate as we get but little news here we are botherd or the sitizens are with the bush whackers night before last tha under took to rob a citizen and he shot one and then he come to town and got a scout and went out but tha could not find any thing of them James and henry was on the scout I did not go tha got back last night the boys is in good health and fine spirits we think the war wont last long now and that it will not be long till we can come home that is if we live all through there is a great many that is domed to to never see there homes and friends and familys I see by looking over the Mortality in the Hospitals at St. Louis the name of Jackson Bridges died of small pox we have a good time here our deauty is not very hard some times we have to go on a scout that is prety hard but we all ways have fun enough to pay us for our trip / we have fine wether there has not ben but few cold days here and for several days it has ben as nise as [paper fold] could wish till this morning it is raining alittle the ground is in good fit to plow and the pople is making garden tell father and Nan that I send my love and best wishes to them and that I would love to here from them I will close hoping to here from you soon nomore I ever remane your Brother till death
