Louisa A. Walker to Enos Reed, undated
Private
My Dear husband.
You have often heard me express a desire to see my brother Cyrus Now he has come home and the happy greetings are over and yet the void in my heart is no nearer filled for when I think of your society every thing else is dull in comparison. Ah! too well do I remember the day that I let you go from me and what an effort it cost me to choke back the words, do not leave me, when they were in my heart, pleading for utterance. I feel very sad tonight and would give worlds for a dear embrace and a word of comfort from you. I must not indulge in such feelings but wait with patience for the happy time when we can enjoy each others society without a fear of being separated. I always write just as I feel but I do not always feel as I do tonight It is getting late and I will go to my bed to dream of you.
Good night my dear
From your devoted wife
