Camp Holbrook, March 5th, 1862

Dear Wife, I will write a
few lines and let you
know that I am well and
hope these few lines will
find My Dear Wife the same
We are about to leave
Vestment for the Seat of
War. We leave to morrow
With out Dont thare has
seven companies gone to the
village to stay to night
in the town hall Dear Wife
I dont want to go and leave
you behind May the Lord
Watch over us both and keep
us from all harm I havent
ben so lonsom since I left
home as I am to night
it loks lonsom here tha
have taken nine of the
horses down to day it
dont look like home
here I wish it was so you
could go with me and live
and come back with me
but as it is not I must
make the best of it tha
say that we go in sailing
vessels I hope not for it will
take us so long I should be
glad to write you som
news but I dont find
any here only letters that are
sent to us here Will be
sent right along so we
shall get them I havent
wrote to aney of our folks
but George When you write
them give my respects to
all tell them we are all
smart I wrote to
Henry the other day
but shant get any from
him till we get to ship
inland I told him to write
to you and you must to
him direct to Camp Grifin

like to see you very much
before I go but will try
and come back to you
