New York,  March 9th  1862
 
Dear Wife
                   I will write you
a few lines and let you
know that we arived in
New York Safe  We left Brattle
boro thursday and arived in
New York friday and went on
board of a ship  We go on
a sailing vessel  it will
take us from fifteen to
twenty days to go through
I have been about sick for
two or three days but am
better to day  My throat
has ben puty sore but is
better to day   I should like
to know how your throat is
very much   hope it is well
before now   I should like to
be at home with you to
day very much but as
I cannot my thoughts will
       be with you  If I had
known we should stade here
so long I would hade you
come here and seen the plase
You would like it very
much  We expect to sail
to day   If we do I cant
write much more this time
we go on two ships  we go
on the Walles and the left wing
on the James Harvey  I must
close with much love to
my Dear Wife  Give my love
to all   Good Buy  Write soon
