Dear Wife,
I will write a
few lines and let you
know that I am well and
hope these few lines will
find you the same. it
has been a long time since
I saw you and I should like
to be thare with you to
day very much. I should
like it much better than
to be here on the ocean
April 6th Well Dear Wife
we arrived at Ship Island
last night about half past
eight We have not landed
yet I think We shall land
to day but dont know
certain I should like to
write you some news
but as we have not landed
we have not yet learnd any
news yet the mail goes
out this afternoon and
I thought I would write a few lines
and let you know that we
are alive it took us 26
days to sail here We
had very pleasant weather
the most of the time to
or three days the sea was
pretty rough the boys I took
stood it very well but one
am sorry to say we lost
one man he belonged to

he died with the quick
consumption I should like
to have been thare fast day
very much with you and
had som maple suger
My health was very good
on the way I was
not seasick aney
I think I was luckey
I hope you will excuse me
for not writing aney
more this time for we have
ben on board the ship so
long that we dont feel
like writing much When
we get on land I will try
and write you some news
I cant write to aney of
the rest this time let
them know that we got
through safe Will you
