Dear Wife

lines and let you know
that I am well and hope
these few lines will find
you the same. We left
Ship Island the 7th and
landed in New Orleans the
12th. We had a very pleasant
voyage up the river Saw some
of the nicest Plantations
that I ever see in my life
I should like to have you
come up the river and see what
a pesant place it is Fort
Jackson & Fort Phillips and
New Orleans are in our hands
That was all taken without
losing many lives We have
hade no fighting to do yet
and I dont think we ever
shall We are encamped
in the Union Cotton Press.
It is a very good place
to stay. We expect to
move up onto the Park that
is right in the hart of the
Citty It is a very pretty
plase here business is very
dull here The rebels run like
sheep when our gunboats
come up the river I guess
tha begin to think Uncle
Sam is too much for them

sinse we left home and
left Five sick on Ship
Island I dont think of
much more to rite this
time I should like to be
at home with you very
