          New Orleans La   July 19th 1862
 
Dear Wife
             Yours of the 22nd arrived
in due season and I will try and
answer it   You must excuse me
for not writing before    Was very
glad to here from you   Am glad
your health is so good    My
health is about the same as it
has been and inhops I shall be
tough in a few days   I was very
sorry to here that mother was
so slim    I think of her a grate
deal and want to see her very
much inhops I shall before long
are inhops she is better before this
I understand you have hurd I
was coming home    Well Frances
there is nothing certain about
that but I am inhops tha will
give me a discharge but shant
be much disapointed if I dont
get one     it isnt aney easy thing
to get a discharge    You must
not think I am coming home
for I may not    I hope tha will
let me off   I want to see you
and my poor sick mother
very much     You hurd that
               was on his way home
that is not so       he is here doing
duty Shumway is well and
has not been in the hospital
exceptLeut Chilld    he is at
the Saint James Hospital
sick with the Scarlet fever
I believe      I have been down and
seen him quite a number of
times   The last time I was thare
I thought he was better      He is
pretty sick    I think he will get
well if nothing new sets in
Charles Peters started for
home last Wensday   He will
go and see Mr Chillds folks
and he will tell you how the
boys are here      I want to see you
very much     My thoughts have
been homeward ever sinse I hurd that
my mother was sick     if I cant
go home now I hope the Lord
will spare her life till I
do come      If not I hope I shall
mete her in a better land
whare there will be no more
parting       I dont think of
much news to write every
thing is great here     We here
that tha are having some
hard fighting thare at Richmond
have you hurd from Henry
& Charles sinse the battles
If you have let me know    I
hope tha will come out all right
I dont think of much more to
write this time    You must not worry
about me for I am so as to be round
at the time must give my love to
my mother and all the rest and
accept a good share for yourself
