Algers La Oct 5th 1862
Dear Wife
I will write you
a few lines and let you
know how I am My health
is very good for me and so
I am doing duty now Your
letter of the 6th arrived in
due time and was very glad
to here you are so smart
but was very sorey to here
that my mother was not
aney better I was inhops when
I herd from her again she
wold be on the game but are
about discurgde about her
ever being aney better am
she will I wish I was whare
I could go and see her and
you to I would give all I have
earnt this summer if I could
go and see you all but thare
is no use in talking about
going home at present We
have moved from the citty
to Algers with the regiment
the boys dont like it here as well
as tha did in the citty The
duty is pretty hard for them
here tha have to go on guard
once in three days so you see
it is perty hard for them
I shouldnt think strange
if we had to march up
toards Texas before long
and clean out what few
rebells thare is thare the
negros are perty thick here
we have had about four
thousand here at
a time they sent
me over to the
citty the other day
with fifty niggers
tha was for solgers tha are
again to arm a whole brigg
ade of them here I hurd the
other daythat Ed Win had
got a man to take his
place in the compernia
if he has I am glad of
it You wanted I should say
Whether you should go up
home and work or not Well
Frances I didnt expect you
to go without you had rather
and mother had rather have
you I dont think of much
more to write this time
We are beginning to look
for Lee Wis Same I should
like to went to the funeral
very much We have lost another
man sinse Lee Wis went home
G T Hamanck he died about
two weaks ago I dont know
what tha called the disease
I dont think of much more
to write this time I should
like to be at home with you
must excuse me if I dont write
very often for we have a good
deal to do here Write soon
