George Boatman was born around 1846 in Ohio to Reed and Harriet Boatman. His father was a farmer who owned $4,380 of real estate and $1,860 of personal property by 1860. The family lived in St. Clair, Ohio, until the 1850s, when they moved to Paris, Illinois. Boatman grew up and attended school in Paris, and by 1870, he was working as a farmer. He married Salema McCollum on December 18, 1873, and the couple apparently had no children. They lived in Shiloh, Illinois, and Boatman worked as a farmer. They returned to Paris in the late 1800s, and by 1900, he was working as an insurance salesman. He died of “locomotor ataxia” in Paris in March 1914.
