           Bayou Bay  Nov 16th 1862
 
Absent Wife
                 Yours of Oct 19th
arrived in due time and was
very glad to here from you
and that you are well    Was
inhops to here that mother
was better    Hope she will
begin to gain now it is
cold weather    I have not
heard from home for som
time    are inhops  to before
long    Well Frances We left
Algers three weaks ago yesterday
With two days rations    We
came up the No G Western
Rail Road    We got on to the
train went about tenn miles
the first night and camped
on the train that night
The next morning we we started
to Boote Station repairing
the road as we went along
building bridges and laying
track    We have built two
bridges about six hundres
feet long each     We wxpected
we should have a fight at
Bayu Delsmans whare our men
was taken prisoners last month
but when tha hurd we was
coming tha burnt the village
Rail Road Bridge and tore
up the track and then
scedadled so we have had
no fighting yet    We have
ben to Burwicks Bay  82 miles
from Algers   We have got
the road in running order
clear through to the Bay
We have sent to Algers to day
for our knapsacks    We dont
know whether we are going
back to Algers or not    I think
we shall go back thare before long
the rebels have destroyed a
grate lot of property here tha
burnt a train of cars
very nere a mile long and
two engines at the Bay    We
are eight miles this side of
the bay camped in a sugar
house    We have lived very
well sinse we started    We
have had all the chickens
fresh pork  fresh beef    We
that we wanted   We have had
to lay right out doors the
most of the time sinse we
started till we got here
We have had some very cold
nights here   We are looking
for Lewis every day  you said
you was goin to send by him
a pare of shirts to me  Well
I am very glad that you are
I shall think a grate of them You
spoke about the State pay   I think you
hade better draw it when it
is sent in to the State Trashure
I dont know whether it has ever
ben sent to the State or not    You
you will find out by the papers when
it is sent you can do what
you think best with it    I want
you to use all you want of it    You
you must not be afraid to use it for you
are welcome to all that you want
I dont think of much more to write
this time    I should like to be at
home this winter with you very
much  I am lonsom  here   It has ben
all most a year sinse I enlisted and the
war has just began   it dont seem much
nerer than it did a year ago   We have
drove what rebels there was here
into texas ourselves
I have write to Henry and Charles but
have never recived aney answer
I want to here from them very
much    You must excuse me for
not writing before   I have hade
no good chance till now   it
is not becase I dont want to write
fo I should like to write every
day if I could     I have not forgoton
you yet and never shall    I hope we
shall have a chanseto go home
and see you folks before long and
tha we will never go to war agane
cant write you much more this time
