            Seneca April 21 1861
 
                                                                                                                        Dear Brother
I thought I would write you a few lines and let you know I am here yet it is rather exciting times now the boss has all most a notion to start for war but I guess he wont go yet he has most to much to see too I gues I shant go now I got asore foot and cant travil wel enough my little toe goint has bin quite sore for afew dayes so I have to ware one of bosses boots other ways I am all right I did not go to meeting day levi was down to see me yesterday he is kinder doing chores for his board he caught cold and has got a lame back I gues he wil be all right in the spring I supose you would like to know what we are doing wel it is tinkering around / doing chores and takeing care of the lambs drawing pay and feeding cattle when the sno storme was he cept george the other hand and I a takeing care of the lambs we have betwene 40 & 50 and 200 sheep
 
I saw all long wensday and he told me he was going out yesterday and I was going a long but sent word he could not go so I dont now when I can come home bos wants to hier a nother hand I dont no but he wil send me out to pulteney after one he asked me the other day if there was enymore left there I told him lots
 
Robert mcfarren a brother to the man that levi stayes with has a son 15 years old that run away last thursday night and went to almira and enlisted with the volinters his father went / after him friday night I not hurd wether he found him or not but one of the neighbor boys got a letter from the boy and he said he had enlisted likely I wil hear more when the bos comes from meeting
 
I thought I would let my letter lay over til after noon so it layed til monday night wel mr mcfaran came home with his this morning wel I supose you hear that jef Davis is marching for washington and soforth
 
            wel Pete wen I waked up this morning I found that I had atuch of the mumps on my right chop wel the gals givit to me so they must take care of me so I gues I wil come around all rite so good bye write soon                 Wilson Nevyus
