          Dear Brother
I arived here last night and found the most of the boys well and I am the same and I received your letter dated Apr 7 I spose it came on the same boat with me Ain Mc has jest come of picket he looks tough so does pete Ransom the boys all look so except nate harris he is waiting for his discharge the boys that came with me stood the voige first rate I was alittle sick two day we had a very pleasant time was 12 days coming from new york and when we got on the boat to NO to come up here we found parner and four other of our boys they started about the time we went to NY but they have bin away/ South they was sent from NO suposeing the reg was at Bericks Bay in the Battle but it was amistake I suppose they saw some sits they went over a battle field after the battle was over the dead had bin beried the boys have got good quarters here they are cloth tents they have nace log fors so they sleep first rate and live beter than we did at Fort H you better believe the boys was glad to see us the Col met us at the landing and took us right to the quarters the ordley and turner fairchild and Jo horton are in the hospital I expect to go and see them in afew days and then I wil tel you more about them I spose you have got my letter from key west we staid there half a day and we went in a swiming and then we came on to NO it was very pleasant all the way up here / we got to NO on wednesday mor staid til dark and took a river boat up here and we had to go most all points of the compas the river is so crooked that we turned around I dont know how meney times but I thought severel times we saw lots of plantations and some nice ones too and some all gon to smath the darkees wer hoing the cane and cotton the river is 4 to 6 feet hier than the land all along til we got most here here the land is quite high and nice dry and it is geting some hot about now and I guess I will close for a while. wel pete I have had my dinner it was beans pork boilt and good bread and it went good too I seen si hiler hy schofield they wer well I am staying with Clint wilcocks John lamphere Car Dun bil Davis Ben Seely three in a bed and all in the middle / pleas write again and give my love to all the Friends if you have not gave that money to mrs walto you neadent for our chaplain came down with us and I wil give it to him
