Wilson Nevyus to Peter Nevyus, 14 November 1863
On Guard near vermillionville
November 14th 1863

Dear Brother I received your kind letter dated Oct. 25 about 10 oclock last night and was very glad to hear from you onse more and learn that Brother Andrew is in the land of the living yet. You did not say wether he in tended to come home soon or not or wether he could if he wanted to. Pete I am glad to hear that you are getting along so well with your work and I wish I was there to help you but I want this war to close before I come. but I dont see much Prospects of that very soon but then I dont hear but little how things ar geting along in other plaises we dont seam to amount to much gist now although / I believe the cavilry and flying artilery made up alittle for the the loss that we had up to carrion crow Bayou. the cavilry went up there a day or so ago and got the rebels to follow them down aways where nimbs Batterry was masked and they let the grape and canister amongst them which kiled a good meney. they got them in such a trot three times and then they left. but there is afew that keep fooling us. our folks have bin throwing up a brest work some three or four miles long both ends resting on the Bayou with two small baterries along the line it looks some as though we was going to winter here but some think we will move before long but I dont know as I care if we can do eney good here it is quite a pleasent plaice onely we have to carry water most to far and navagations rather / slow which makes our living rather poor, which is fresh beef, hard tack, and coffee, which is very good what there is of it.

I received aletter from O F long and one from Si about the same date of yours I found 8 postage stamps in yours which came very good for I was out and I hope you will do so more. well pete the Boys are all well, and I am the same or I would not be on guard we have had inspection of some kind most every day this week which has kept us buisey cleaning up for we have to have things jist so or get the asses slashed rite off. well pete I dont know of eney thing more to write so I wil close

From your most obediant and
 ever grateful Brother
