Martha Sophia Rockwell (maiden name: Pelton) was born on November 20, 1823, in Connecticut to James Pelton and Sophia Gaylord. She married Sidney W. Rockwell on August 27, 1847, and they had at least two children: James, born around 1848; and Anna, born around 1857. They lived in East Windsor Hill, Connecticut, and her husband worked as a physician. By 1850, they owned $1,000 of real estate. A decade later, they owned $1,500 of real estate and $1,500 of personal property. Her husband died around 1890. By the early 1900s, she had become an “invalid,” and she was living with a nurse. She died in South Windsor, Connecticut, on May 4, 1904.
