            Dear Wife
 
                                    I will write you a few lines and let you know that I am well and hope these few lines will find you the same at home we left New Orleans the tenth of this month and arived  here the twelth this is one of the meanest places that I ever see it is a dusty nasty filthy hole I hope we shant stay here long I hald rather be in frount of Port Hudson than to be here we hald a big revue the 14th  of all the troops in this comand we was revued by Maj Gen Dan Sickels and hald an inspection yestarday so you see we have to work if it is hot weather it seams as tho it was a grate deal hotter here this summer than it was last I under took to write last night to you but the bugs was flying round so thick that I gave it up we expect to move to day up about a mile above here we are in the 1st  Brigade 2d Division 19 th army corps Com by Brigidar Gen Nickessan I dont think thare is any thing to it that we was to patrol the river I think we shall stay here this summer and then we shall have to do some fighting in the fall Well Frances you dont know how lonsom I am I never was so lonsom in my life as I am here I want to see you very much and hope I may some time the boys are all well Milton is a tough as a bar I dont think of much more to write this time give my love to all and except a good share your self rite soon and all the news Good.Buy
