Dear Wife
I will write you a few lines and let you know that I am well and hope these few lines will find you the same at home yours of May 30th was recived in due season and was very glad to here from you that you was well I would awnserd it before this time but.we hald ordors to go up the river a piece about the same time that it came we started the night of the 20th on board a boat and went up to tunica bend landed thare in the morning staed thare till night and went onbord again and landed the next morning at Fort Holmes we stade thare till night and went onto the boats agane and returned to camp we expected to find some rebs up thare but found none we hald a very good time I should like to ride on the river all the time it is very plesant I dont like to be in camp here it is a very lonsom plase to me there is not but one or two houses to be seen here I pesume we shall have to go up agane before long we are to pattrol the river this summer and keep it open the rebs fire on our boats very ofton tha hald better look out and not let the Eighth Vermont get after them if tha do tha will have to come down a notch the night we left Fort.Adams w e hald about as hard a thunder showr as I ever see in this cuntry we was out on pickett and it began to rain jest as tha came out to call us in we got wet clere through we haldent a dry rag on us well we felt good I expected to catch cold but did not I think it done us good well Frances have you seen Capt Leach yet or any of the boys that went home with him I should like to know if tha have ben musterd out yet tha can thank us for that if tha are musterd out if we hald not reinlisted I think tha would all hald to stade till next february I should laugh if tha should have to stay in the survis till then perhaps tha would not think much of it tell Capt Leach that E. G. Stevens died the 11th of this month you rote that Henry was going the next Sartarday I hope he will have good luck and get out of the army we have ben looking for a mail for about a weak.it dont seem to come yet I dont know what the reason is thare must be one in the city for us you wanted to know what I thought about paying the town mortage or paying Mr.Gillmore on his will it wont make any difernce with me it will be jest as well to pay it to Mr. Gillmore if he will endorse it on his mortage suit your self and I shall be suited well Frances I want to see you very much I wish it was so I could be thare with you this summer it would be much more plesant for me than it is to stay here in this hot place you must have Gen Grant hury up and take richmond so we can have it settled up I don’t care how quick it is settled up the boys that are with us are all prety smart Milt is all right. & E. Fuller I have not heard from sinse we left the city he was gaining tha said. & E.Getshell & M.H.D. Send thare regards to you all Give my love to Sarah and all the rest of the folks and accept a good share your self plese rite whather you have heard any thing from the state money yet or not I don’t think of much more to write this time will close hoping to here from you soon & wishing my darling Good Buy
