Susan D. Lines (maiden name unknown) was born on August 14, 1815, in New York. She married Henry Lines, and they had at least four children: Henry, born around 1843; Catherine, born around 1845; Robert, born on July 15, 1848; George, born around 1853; and Rossiter, born around 1858. They lived in Bristol, Wisconsin, and her husband worked as a farmer. By 1850, they owned $2,000 of real estate. They moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin, around 1850 and then to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, in the 1860s. By 1860, they owned $1,200 of real estate and $4,000 of personal property. Her husband died on December 23, 1877, and she died in Kenosha on September 14, 1878.
