            Dear Wife      
 
                                                I will write you a few lines and let you know how I am and whare I am my health is very good at presant and hope these few lines will find yours the same well Frances the department of the gulf has plaid out with us we left Morganza July 1st  and arived in New Orleans the next day stade thare untill the 4th  then went onboard St. Mary and are on our way to Fort Monroe when we left we expected to go to mebeal but come to get starteed we found that we was going to Forteys.Monroe we hald ordors to not take any badged only what we would carey our selvs so we left it all behind at New Orleans when we shall get it is somthing we dont know I think we are going whare we shall see some hard fighting tha cant take Richmond without the 19th army corps I under stand that all the 19th army corps are going to Virginia when we left Morganza we little thought we was going north so it is and we must make the best of it thare is one thing curtin we shall be nerer home it wont take so long to here from home as it does at N.O. we shall be thare by the 12th  I think I am inhops to see Henry thare and Charles to cant stop to write much more this time it is costing us 1.50 a day to live on the ship and we are all out of mony so we are living on our friends we have not ben paid of since we came back and I presume we shant be for four months to come I hope tha will take Richmond before we get thare I think tha have ben to work on it long ernough to have it  will close for this time write as soon as you get this and all the news love to all and except a good share your self good buy
