Dear Wife
 
                        I will write you a few lines and let you know that I am alive and well and hope these few lines will find you the same at home when I rote you last we hald ben on a raid up as fUr as the Shanadore river and found the rebs could run to fast for us so we returned to Washington stade thare two nights and hald ordors to start agane we started and came to Fredrick City & from thare to Harpers Fery stade thare one night and came back to the city tha say we are going to Pansilvainia but I should jest as quick think we should go back to Washington we have not hald any fighting to do here yet but have have haled some very hard marching to do and it has ben very hot so hot that men drop right down in the road.quite a number have have ben sun stroke we never see so hard a time in La as we have here I hope tha will let us go back to Washington and rest a while well I dont think of much more to write this time I do hope your health is better than it was when you wrote last  you must live as easy as you can this sumer and get smart agane I wish I was thare with you and chere you up I think I should feel butter and you to when this crull war is over I shall come and befor if I can cant stop to write much more for we expect to start soon you will here by the papers whare we go to write as soon as you get this and all the news love to all and accept a good share your self the boys are all prety smart Milton is well good buy
