            Dear Brother
                                                                                                                        I received your kind letter dated Dec 30 and was glad to hear that you wer all well for I hear that there is a great deal sickness up in pulteney this winter and also severel deaths I think it must be rather hard on John Waterouse to lose his wife but so it goes through this world. I am well and enjoying myself the best I can and that is the way with all of Co A. I believe Hank and I enjoy ourselfs in our little coop as well as eney of them we have got things very handy for soldiers but we think that the little Col. is geting rather strick for volintears / but then that is what makes a good soldier but we cant hardley see it. I will give you the program as near as I can. the bugal to get up at 6 that is all right well rool call at 6.30 and breakfast at 7 so far so good. Guard and pickit mounting at 830 then comes the tug of war for them that stayes in camp to drill from 9 untill 11 inspection by the Dr and commander and we have all got to be there and every thing in order dinner at 12 or as soon as you can get it then batalion drill from 2 untill 4 and by that time we are willing to rest generley. Supper at dresperade at 5 and supper as soon as you can get it rool call at 8 and lights out and go to bed at 9 or you can go to the guard house and stay which has not very good acomodations although I never have / bin there yet but expect every day when I will. I am glad to hear that Sam Weganer has paid up that note fare suppose you could use the money to a better advantage and I hope you have received a check for 32 dollars and with that you can straton up some depts
 
I suppose you keep all the horses yet do you ever drive topsy alone well Pete I am glad you and Ellis are having good times while us soldiers are gone for I think your chance will be slim when we get back. do you hear from O F Long. I wrote to him some time soon after I hurd that he was staying at Elmira and have not hurd from him since. Farechild and Clark Evens boath arived here last week all right and tough Harry Smith was at Elmira the last I hurd from him /
 
well pete it is very warm here this after noon so that I sweet riting but I am siting in the sun Geo Prentiss is in my shanty writing with me and Hank is in playing ucher with Guss Jim Coryell Brad Shurget and the rest of the boys are reading novels or papers or some thing of that kind eney way to pass away time
