Dear Wife
 
                        I will write you a few lines in awnser to yours of Sept 1st whitch was recived and read with much plasure was glad to here that you was well my health is very good at presant we are laying here for the presant dont know whather we are going ahead or not mr rebs are still in our frount but tha dont trouble us much the 19th a.c. have hald no fighting to do yet the eight ac hald a prety hard fight last Sunday but tha came out ahed and Mr. Johnes hald to fall back we hald about one hundred killed & wounded on our side we was close by & I expected every minit tha would order us up to help the eight.a.c. was very glad tha did not I dont think we shall have any very hard fighting here I think tha will start for richmond I think old Jeff will nede them thare soon I hald a letter from Henry yestarday he is as well as usal he says he is coming out and see me next winter I see by your letter you are at St. Johnsburg well I am glad you have got up thare after so long a time hope you will stay and make a good long visit I wish I could be thare with you it would be very plesant for me  the 10 dolars you sent me arived all right I hope I shall get anough to pay you back some time hald a letter from Edwin he said he hald sent my boots but I have not got them yet I rote to him to send them by mail I guess he sent them by express I shall send to Washington in a day or two by the mail agent to get them for me tha say Will Child has enlisted and you wrote that Fru Clement hald to well I am glad tha have but tha will find tha have left home was sorey to hear that Byron hald got hurt hope he is doing well I must close for this time tha are cannonading of on our right perhaps it wont trouble us I hope not tell them all to write to me will close by wishing my beloved wife Good Buy write soon
