Morganzia La Sept 12th 1864
 
            Dear Brother
                                    I thought I would write a few lines to you to let you know where we are I sent you a letter when we was coming from mobile bay well we came up here and stoped we staid all one day in New orleans or rather we staid at the landing where we coled up. the boat that we came on was condemned her boilers was burnt out and she had bin ordered to N.O. for repairs so when we came there part of the hands left and they got some new ones but we came here safe and have gone in camp and the talk is that we will stay a while I under stood that the Dr & Col reported the regt unfit for field servis now. / there is severel in the regt that are broke out with sores and the Dr says it is the scirvy and is cased by eating so much salt meat and not having vegtables to eat we have not had but little fresh since we left vicksburg but I have stood it first rate well we got the news yesterday that atlanta was taken that is about all the news of importance. I will send you an order that was read to us the other night on Dresperade so you can see what our Col thinks of us
 
Well Pete I guess I will send for some shirts and socks I wish you would get some good stout stuff for shirts and have me a pair made and send them to me by mail and a couple of pair of socks I sweet so much this summer that it has rotted my shirts so they begin to give out in some plaises but they will last yet a while / you must take some of the money that I have sent to you to pay for all the things you send me. I believe I wont send for eney boots this time I under stand they are most as high up there as they are here and I guess I will draw a pair of cavilery boots they cost betwene 3 to 4.00 dollars and they are prety good boots
 
well Pete I supose if you are drafted you will raise a little money for a substitute or will you come and fight and let your money go well I tell you it is tough bussiness some times and a fellow must look out for him self and that a fellow has to do eneyway
 
well that is all I can think of now
