Wilson Nevyus to Peter Nevyus, 1 December 1864
Memphis Tenn. Dec 1st 1864

            Dear Brother
I received 3 letters and a shirt from you yesterday and was glad to hear that you wer all well and I was rather surprised when I hurd who you had taken for a wife but I think you made a good choice and have done well. they say that an old fox is allways the slyest and I think it must have bin so with you if aunt Hannah W did not find it out. you must have bin mighty sly about it although I had hurd of sutch talk be fore.

I wish you a quiet life & a happy one

I hope you and Josiahs folks will feal better towards each other now for I see plainley you did not hitch first rate as they did not go to the fandango

I wrote you a letter while at Duvals Bluff but you see I aint there now the 2 Brigade left there the 25 and came hear in the night of the 28 and yesterday our Brig the 3ed came down the river here I went up to the 161 camp this morning and saw the Boys the New Recruites & all they all look first rate I saw Wm Mayhon I believe they call him he said he had worked for you some last summer he said he had wrote to you and wanted I should remind you of it so you would not for get it the boys say they had plenty of duty to do while up the river and some cold weather. there war a few days rather cool while I was at the bluff but the most of the time it has bin warm and pleasent to day we are all around with our coats off. we have a nice plaice for our camp a bout a mile east of town memphis is quite a large city although I have not bin around / it much yet but I should think it nearley as large as Elmira and there is a goodeal buisiness done here now. there is some fear I believe that forest & Beauregard are going to atack it. there has bin but few Soldiers here for a while but they are sending them here now I think our Division will soon all be here then I think we ambalance drivers will go back to our own Brig again but can not tell I saw Jo hiler at the mouth of white river when we came out he was well the rest of the train was there & we exspect them up here soon. well I dont know of eney news to write and I must close soon. I received a letter from Josiah and he sais he cant get you to come to eney a greement about the farm and seams to think that you and I are claiming it all now I dont wish to have eney body think so / you wanted to know if I was wiling for you to stay on the farm and I was in hopes you and Josiah would make some a greament about it so that you boath would be satisfied he seames to think there is some foul play agoing on becaus I wrote that I hoped you would not go to law about it I did not mean that you would go to law with him about it but that you would not let a lawyer have eneything to do with it and for us all to share equal as near as you & him could divide it. well I must close write Soon give my love to your wife and keep ashare your self and remember me to all the friends
