            Dear Brother
                                    it has bin some time since I received your letter Dec 4 the reason I waited so long was I have shifted my quarters when the regt got orders to report here the ambalance Corps was parteley broken up and the most of the boys sent to thear regt again all the 161 & 1st La
 
I had first rate times driving but I think I like it here in the co about as wel. I am in with Geo Clark E Lee & J.H. & J. A. McConnell and we are having a bulley old time we have a nice fire place and we exspect to have a grand time crismus but I suppose you think you will beat us But I cant see it /
 
I received a letter from Rhoda afew days a go she said that you was all well and that they talked some of sending me a box of things if they have I hope they will get here for New Years. You spok a bout them socks. I dont care wether you send eney right a way or not as I have got 2 pr woolen I drew and the cotton ones you sent with the first shirt but after a while I would like a pr of cotton socks to ware with the others when it gets warmer it is very pleasent weather here now but we had a dub[?] time when we came from memphis it rained and froze and when we landed here the mud was up to our knees but it froze up as hard as a brick night before last and has not thawed out yet but is pleasent /
 
Well pete we hurd yesterday that Hoods army was all captured and that Sherman had taken havana So I think we wont have to fight much more the talk is here that we belong in the marine Brig are reserve corps to patrole the river but I dont know what to think about it. well I dont think of eney more you said in your last that your wife would write as soon as you hurd from me I would be very glad to hear from my new sister
